It remained off for about 3 months but when I started using SOLTRON fuel additive the CEL came on again during 1st tankful of using the additive.

201235I replaced the DPFE EGR Valve PCV Valve EGR Tube Emission hoses coming off of the DPFE Air Filter spark plugs cleaned all carbon build up in egr connection area and throttle body area changed oil antifreee and fuel filter. After driving for about 15 miles the CEL comes back on P0401. I cleaned the skinny plastic emission hoses as well.

2018829Block the ports on the heads and remove the EGR. Install a block off plate or whatever you want to do for asthetics. Not so sure if using the EGR elim plug is a good idea. usually with the EGR unplugged the CEL is tripped and the computer recognies the EGR as nonfunctioning and disables it.

Most likely the egr valve is not the problem. You need to test the DPFE sensor input to the computer. A good ford mechanic will know how to test the EGR system. You have an EGR valve DPEFE sensor Egr control solenoid and of course EGR passages. Remember the P0401 just directs you to the EGR system.

Diagnosing EGR Vacuum Regulator Solenoid which comes off the EVR. I can drive the car for say 5 miles or so and I get the correct reading per this test 5Hg upon takeoff and holding steady throttlecruise. Release the gas and it drops right to ero hit the gas and it spikes to 5Hg and so forth. DPFE hoses are in good shape still
